Thank you for visiting my Buff Nation Football website.

my why

Writing and Football have always been my passion

Colorado Football and writing have been a passion of mine since 1983 when, at the age of 14, I scored a job selling hot dogs at CU Football games (as well as Summer Folsom Field concerts).  1983 was also the first year I kept a daily journal (inspired by my father (see donation section).  Since 1983, there hasn’t been a CU home game I’ve missed while in Boulder, and there have been over 12,000 days (3 million words) of journaling.  A website dedicated to writing about CU football was inevitable.

Family

I moved to Boulder in 1978 when my father decided to relocate his seminar business from Pasadena, CA.  My mom liked the four distinct seasons of Boulder, the low crime, university town, close proximity to an international airport and general quality of life.  Back then Boulder was still somewhat of a hidden gem.

Sadly, both my parents recently passed away.  After being married 60+ years, they passed away within four months of each other.  Surviving my parents are my older brothers Ken (Harrisonburg, VA), Eric (Superior, CO) and younger sisters Xenia (Boulder, CO) and Marla (Boulder, CO).

I’ve been married to Jen for over twenty years, and she makes life easy.  We have four kids Petra (Sophomore at UMass Amherst), Noelle (Freshman at James Madison University), Ryan (Sophomore at Fairview), and Aerin (Seventh grader Sacred Heart of Jesus).  We also have two dogs – Horton, who is the best dog in the world, and Teddy, who tries hard – sometimes.

Interests

In addition to Colorado Football and writing, my interest includes real estate investing, travel (preferably with a backpack), reading, religion, extended family gatherings, coaching my kids (used to be sports, and now just life), spending time with our over-the-top group of friends, SCUBA diving (Galapagos #1) and golf (still looking for that hole in one moment). We also recently got a pool table. I still want to get a vintage Galaga arcade game, but Jen says no. We shall see.

Blog Objective

The key objective for this Buff Nation Football website is to bring informative and entertaining updates to its readers.  Given I was born in 1969, a large percentage of the quips, quotes, cliches and media clips are from the formative decades of the 80s/90s/2000s.  Things seem to have gone dark in 2010s as kids were being reared, and it’s only recently in the 2020s that there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.  That said, I feel music was better back then, but TV content is better now (Seinfeld withstanding).

Typically, the Buff Nation blogs come out on the Friday preceding game day.  Feel free to comment when compelled.  As my wife Jen reminds me when I leave several hours before kickoff to go tailgate, I did not go to CU (Holy Cross ’92), but ever since selling hot dogs, I never viewed CU Football as the possession of the University of Colorado.  It has always been, and will always be, more about the pride of the City of Boulder and State of Colorado.
